Gotham is one of our locations where you can shop our (gay as hell) weed. but they’re also known as a spot for queer cannabis culture from their collabs—with icons like Trixie Mattel to bday parties for new york’s it-girls like Alex Consani. and now furthering appreciation for our community through supporting us at doll invasion. as announced on our IG, we are partnering with Gotham to provide joinks (joints) for the dolls at doll invasion this Saturday 8/31 in Fire Island Pines.

doll invasion is all about celebrating trans pride and joy in a historically cis-gay space. the first invasion last year even garnered representation in Vogue. Emma Specter noted the presence of “dozens of trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming beachgoers to the island.” with some trans royalty like our beloved Cecilia Gentili—may she rest in power.

in honor of Cecilia and the thousands of lost trans lives, this year’s theme is “All Dolls Go To Heaven.” at the 1980s fire island pines mansion, Reflections, there will be iconic shows like the doll ball, hosted by Qween Jean + Gia Love, and pop-ups like the poolside atelier w/ Willie Norris. everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this little slice of heaven. if you’re trans you’re invited for free. If you’re not, make sure to donate if you want to attend. all donations help cover travel and labor costs for attendees. and of course we’ll need a whole queer mafia for this invasion. these lovely babes are going to be the life of the party.

HOW TO GET TO DOLL INVASION THIS YEAR:

so how does one get to fire island pines from NYC?

hop on the LIRR:

where to catch it: if you're in Manhattan, you can hop on at Penn Station or grand central. if you're coming from Brooklyn, head to Atlantic Terminal. Queens folks should go to Jamaica station.
get the app: download the MTA traintime app—it lets you buy and activate your tickets before you board, which is way easier than buying them on the train (and saves you some cash). plus, it’s handy for checking train schedules.
switch trains: most trips will need a change, usually at Babylon or Jamaica. don’t stress—your next train will be right across the platform. the whole ride typically takes between 90 minutes and two hours. ticket prices are around $15 off-peak each way and $20 during busy times (but prices can change).
beach deals: in summer, the LIRR offers special beach packages. you can only snag these at ticket kiosks, and they cover the train ride, transfer to the ferry, and the ferry ride itself. for 2024, this package costs $44.75.
getting to the ferry: colonial transportation runs shuttles from Sayville train station to the ferry terminal for $6 one way (cash only). the ride’s just 5 minutes, and you don’t need to book in advance. they’re always ready at the station to pick you up!
ferry info: Sayville Ferry Service takes you to Pines and Cherry Grove. boat schedules vary, so check ahead to avoid long waits. give yourself at least 15-20 minutes between your train arrival and the ferry departure. Arrive by 1:15pm for the 1:30pm ferry. you can buy ferry tickets with a credit card up to 5 minutes before departure; after that, it’s cash only. round-trip tickets are about $20 (price may change).
once on the island: use fire island water taxi or h20 limo to travel from cherry grove to fire island pines. you can also walk between cherry grove and fire island pines—it's about a 20-minute stroll.

if you wanna drive:

parking: you can drive straight to the Sayville Ferry Terminal and park in their paid lot at 41 River Road, Sayville NY 11782.
car service: lyft or uber are also good options, but weekend traffic on long island can be rough. taking the train is usually quicker and cheaper.
